India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, replacing team-mate Abhishek Sharma. With this achievement, Kishan becomes only the fourth Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma to reach the No. 1 spot in the T20I batting rankings.
Kishan returned to India’s T20I squad in January this year after an absence of more than two years. Scores of 76 and 103 against New Zealand earned him a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad. He went on to score 317 runs during the tournament, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer as India successfully defended their title.
India all-rounder Shivam Dube has also made progress in the T20I rankings. He climbed three places to No. 7 after scoring 45 runs and taking three wickets in the two-match series against Ireland, despite India losing the series 2-0.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head has regained the No. 1 position in the ICC Test batting rankings. England’s Joe Root slipped two places to No. 3 after scoring 171 runs at an average of just 28.50 in the three-Test series against New Zealand. Harry Brook remains second, just one rating point behind Head.
Several players have also made gains in the Test batting rankings following the England-New Zealand series. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (11th), Devon Conway (15th) and Tom Latham (31st), along with England’s Ben Duckett (14th), all moved up the rankings. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra also climbed two places to No. 7 after his consistent performances, including a second-innings 94.
In the Test all-rounders’ rankings, Ben Stokes finished his international career at No. 3. He had climbed two places after taking six wickets in the Trent Bridge Test.
In the Test bowling rankings, New Zealand’s Matt Henry dropped to No. 2 after missing the final Test due to injury, allowing India’s Jasprit Bumrah to reclaim the top spot.
Elsewhere, West Indies pacers Shamar Joseph (14th) and Kemar Roach (17th) made significant gains in the bowling rankings following their victory over Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani also climbed to 19th after helping his side register a comprehensive Test win over Bangladesh.
