Mid-Tournament Captain Change at Rangpur, Liton Das Takes Charge
A major change has taken place at Rangpur Riders during the ongoing BPL season. Midway through the tournament, captain Nurul Hasan Sohan stepped down from his leadership role. The team’s new captain is national team skipper Liton Das.
The announcement was confirmed by head coach Mickey Arthur after the team’s practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium’s academy ground on Friday. The coach said the decision was straightforward and took into account the team’s current situation. Liton’s experience with the national team and his influence in the dressing room played a significant role in this decision.
On the matter, Mickey Arthur said,"Since he is the national team captain, the decision was easy. I really like the way Liton plays cricket. He is very aggressive. His mentality is spot on. He is a leader whom everyone follows and respects. That’s why it makes sense that he leads the Bangladesh team in T20s."
Rangpur’s performance so far has been inconsistent. The coaching staff believes that this leadership change could inject new energy into the team. The coach also noted that in some matches, the team may have been overly cautious, which affected results.
He added,"Perhaps in those three matches, we were a bit too cautious. But now we have a big opportunity ahead. As a team, it is still possible to make history."
Although Rangpur Riders have lost their last few matches, the aim is to restore the team’s confidence under Liton’s captaincy. According to the Rangpur management, the decision to change the captain was made at a critical time to maintain the team’s performance and morale for the remaining matches.
