Match-fixing is often described as a deadly disease in cricket. That shadow has now fallen over India’s domestic UP T20 League. Arjun Chauhan, manager of the Kashi Rudras team, was approached on Instagram by a bookie with a fixing proposal. The offer promised ₹1 crore along with additional commission if players performed in a “specific way.”
Instead of being tempted by the sudden approach, Arjun immediately went to the police. A case was later filed at the Sushant Golf City Police Station. The complaint mentioned that from the account @vipss_nakrani, messages and voice calls were made clearly luring him into fixing. The individual even promised payment in dollars if the conditions were met.
Following the incident, based on screenshots, voice clips, and messages provided by Arjun, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) launched an investigation. Their preliminary assessment suggests the matter is linked to an organized fixing syndicate.
The UP T20 League, which began on August 17 and will conclude this Saturday, features several national stars, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rinku Singh. The scandal has shaken the tournament.
