With the Asia Cup approaching, the Indian cricket team held their first training session on Friday at the ICC Academy ground in Dubai. The seven-time champions began their title defense preparations under the watchful eyes of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who delivered an inspiring message to his players.

On Saturday, the BCCI released a video of the practice session on its official website, where allrounder Shivam Dube revealed Gambhir’s words.

“The coach said that whenever you play for the country, it’s an opportunity to do something new. We must make the most of it, practice properly, and become better cricketers.”

The video showed vice-captain Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and other senior players sweating it out together after a long break. This was their first joint training session since the 2-2 Test series draw in England.

Fans’ expectations are particularly high around fast bowler Bumrah. The 31-year-old pacer has not featured in T20Is for India since the World Cup final in June last year. Now, he is eagerly eyeing a return at the upcoming Asia Cup.
