New Zealand Cricket Postpones Bangladesh Tour
New Zealand Cricket Postpones Bangladesh Tour
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has canceled its upcoming tour of Bangladesh, which was scheduled to begin later this month. The tour included two four-day matches and three one-day matches, with the New Zealand 'A' team set to arrive in Bangladesh on September 28. The matches were scheduled to take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox's Bazar. However, due to travel advisories, the tour has now been postponed.
This decision comes in the wake of political instability in Bangladesh following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, which left the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in a state of limbo. Although the BCB appointed a new president yesterday, the political situation has led to travel warnings from several countries, including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and India, advising against travel to Bangladesh. These advisories have remained in place even after the formation of an interim government and the normalization of law and order.
As a result, the New Zealand Cricket Board has decided to delay their tour. The BCB remains hopeful that the series will be rescheduled during a future window. New Zealand had initially planned the Bangladesh tour as part of their preparation for the India tour in October.
