Root Reigns Supreme in Tests, Abhishek Sharma Creates History in T20I Rankings

England's seasoned batter Joe Root has further solidified his top spot in the ICC Test batting rankings, while India's rising star Abhishek Sharma has made history by claiming the No. 1 position in T20I batting rankings. He becomes only the third Indian to achieve this milestone after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

Root’s brilliant 150-run knock at Old Trafford saw him surpass Australia’s Ricky Ponting, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. His stellar performance has pushed him higher in the rankings. Fellow Englishman Ben Duckett also rose five places to enter the top 10, now sitting at No. 10 after a well-crafted 94.

Despite injury concerns, Rishabh Pant climbed one place to No. 7, thanks to his gritty half-century in Manchester. However, his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped three places to No. 8.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja reached a career-best 29th in the Test batting chart after an unbeaten century, jumping five places. Ben Stokes also made a move—up eight places to 34th, and now holds the No. 3 spot in the all-rounders' ranking. Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked Test bowler.

T20I Spotlight: Abhishek at the Summit
In the T20I rankings, the spotlight is firmly on Abhishek Sharma, who dethroned Travis Head to claim the top spot. His recent consistent performances against South Africa and England, following a breakout century against Zimbabwe, catapulted him to No. 1.

Head, who held the top spot for a year, dropped to second after missing the recent West Indies series.

Australia’s other T20 stars have also seen major gains:

Josh Inglis: up 6 places to 9th

Tim David: up 12 spots to 28th

Cameron Green: a massive jump of 64 places to 24th, after scoring 205 runs in five matches, earning him Player of the Series honors.

In the T20I bowling chart:

Nathan Ellis rose 7 spots to 8th

Sean Abbott climbed 21 places to 23rd

Matt Henry of New Zealand moved up 10 places to 19th, following strong showings against South Africa and Zimbabwe.

This ranking update reflects a dynamic phase in world cricket, with seasoned names reinforcing their legacy and young guns like Abhishek Sharma rising to global stardom.
