Miraz Leads the Charge as Bangladesh Strengthen Grip on Chattogram Test

Bangladesh resumed the third day of the Chattogram Test against Zimbabwe with hopes resting firmly on the shoulders of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. Starting the day at 291 for 7, the hosts powered through the morning session to reach 404 for 8 by lunch, extending their lead to a commanding 177 runs.

Miraz, who reached his fifty off 70 balls, remained unbeaten on 76 at the break. His composed and purposeful innings ensured Bangladesh not only consolidated their position but also built towards a potentially match-defining total.

The home side had suffered a late collapse on Day 2, losing 4 wickets for just 20 runs and seeing their hopes of a massive total thrown into doubt. With only a 64-run lead overnight, Bangladesh aimed to push that figure well beyond 100 — a goal that Miraz executed with calm authority.

Taijul Islam provided valuable support at the other end. He scored 20 runs off 45 balls before falling with the lead at 115, breaking a solid 63-run partnership that helped steady the innings.

Debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib then joined Miraz at the crease and proved equally effective. By lunch, the pair had added 62 runs for the ninth wicket, with Tanzim contributing a steady 29 runs and offering solid resistance.

Zimbabwe's leg-spinner Vincent Masakisa, who caused major damage the previous day with three wickets, could only add Taijul’s scalp to his tally during the morning session. His threat appeared less effective as Bangladesh batted with renewed focus and intent.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh had bowled Zimbabwe out for 227 in their first innings, giving skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's side a strong platform. With the lead now nearing 200, Bangladesh are firmly in control as the third day progresses.
