Mohammedan Clinch Victory Over Prime Bank in DPL Clash Without Tamim Iqbal

Following the Eid break, the Dhaka Premier League resumed today with Mohammedan Sporting Club securing a convincing 5-wicket victory over Prime Bank Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Despite the absence of star opener Tamim Iqbal, Mohammedan made a strong return under the new leadership of Towhid Hridoy, who marked the occasion with a half-century.

Mohammedan's Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout performer of the match, earning the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 67 off 55 balls, guiding the team to victory.

Batting first after losing the toss, Prime Bank suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their top five batters for just 67 runs. Though Shamim Hossain staged a partial recovery, the team was ultimately bowled out for 174 in 32.2 overs. Shamim played a fiery knock of 89 runs off 61 balls, decorated with 10 fours and 4 sixes. He received brief support from Irfan Sukkur (19) and Arafat Sunny (21) toward the end.

Mohammedan’s bowling attack, led by the experienced Taijul Islam, proved lethal. Taijul took 4 wickets for just 5 runs in 20 deliveries, while Ebadot Hossain claimed 3 wickets.

Chasing a modest target of 175, Mohammedan had a shaky start. Opener Naim Sheikh scored a quick 18 off 7 balls but was trapped lbw by Ebadot in the second over. Hasan Mahmud then dismissed Mahidul Islam Ankon (10) and Mahmudullah Riyad (7), reducing Mohammedan to 64 for 4.

Captain Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then stabilized the innings, with Hridoy contributing a solid 57 before falling to Hasan Mahmud, who ended with 3 wickets. However, Mehidy remained unbeaten and finished the job with authority.

Mohammedan chased down the target with 20 overs to spare, sealing the match with five wickets in hand and reaffirming their status as one of the tournament’s strongest contenders.
