Bangladesh U-19 Clinch Thrilling One-Wicket Win Over South Africa U-19 in Tri-Nation Series
Bangladesh U-19 Clinch Thrilling One-Wicket Win Over South Africa U-19 in Tri-Nation Series
Bangladesh U-19 edged past South Africa U-19 by just 1 wicket in a nail-biting contest of the tri-nation series held in Harare. Chasing a modest target of 129, the Junior Tigers scraped through in 28.4 overs, losing 9 wickets along the way.
Batting first, South Africa found themselves in early trouble thanks to a fiery spell from Al Fahad, who dismantled their top order. The Proteas slumped to 25 for 3, and despite some resistance from the middle order, they were bundled out for 128 in 34.4 overs.
Paul James (26), Armaan Malik (28) and Daniel Bosman (24) were the only notable contributors for the South African side. For Bangladesh, Al Fahad starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets, while Samiun Bashir and Swadhin Islam took 2 each.
In reply, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start. They lost their first wicket at 21 runs, and soon after were reduced to 35 for 4, with Azizul Hakim Tamim, Rifat Beg, and Rizwan Hossain falling cheaply.
With wickets tumbling around him, Samiun Bashir stood firm at one end. But when the ninth wicket fell at 109, Bangladesh’s hopes looked bleak. However, Samiun, alongside Swadhin Islam, stitched together a priceless 20-run partnership for the final wicket to take the team over the line.
Samiun remained unbeaten on 45 off 39 balls, hitting 7 fours and 1 six, while Swadhin Islam did not face a delivery in the last-wicket stand.
For South Africa, Jacobus Bason took 4 wickets, and Bhuanda Mazola picked up 3.
