Injury Concern Grows: Taskin May Miss White-Ball Series vs Sri Lanka
Pacer Taskin Ahmed has resumed bowling in the nets after recovering from injury, but concerns remain over his availability for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. Though he was not included in the Test squad, Bangladesh had hoped to have him fit for the ODIs and T20Is — but that hope is now in jeopardy.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) medical team has not been able to give any positive updates on Taskin’s fitness. He remains in the rehabilitation phase of his recovery and may miss the entire Sri Lanka tour, including the white-ball fixtures.
Taskin, one of Bangladesh’s leading fast bowlers, had been sidelined with an ankle injury, keeping him away from competitive action. Although he has returned to net sessions, his full recovery is still uncertain. While the Test squad is currently touring Sri Lanka, Taskin has been training with the white-ball players in Mirpur.
There were initial expectations that the Sri Lanka tour would mark Taskin’s return to international cricket, but that scenario now looks increasingly unlikely. A final decision on his availability will take more time, said Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, BCB’s Chief Physician.
“We’re not sure yet if Taskin will be fit to return before the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. We’ll reassess his condition at the end of this month and only then make a decision,” said Dr. Chowdhury.
Taskin sustained the ankle injury during the Dhaka Premier League and later underwent treatment in England. His rehabilitation is ongoing. The BCB has yet to announce squads for the white-ball leg of the tour. If Taskin regains fitness in time, he is almost certain to be selected.
