Australia Appoint Mike Hussey as Consultant Coach

Former Australian batting star Mike Hussey is set to return to a senior role in Australian cricket. He will join head coach Andrew McDonald’s coaching staff as a consultant coach. Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed him to the role for the upcoming cycle, which includes the 2027 Ashes and ICC ODI World Cup, as well as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and T20 World Cup.

The experienced former cricketer will also serve as a T20 format adviser in the coming days. In this role, he will provide expert insights into opposition strategies, player scouting and ways to improve the team’s overall performance.

Hussey will also provide coaching support as Australia prepare for their T20I series against England later this month, followed by the Test series against New Zealand.

Hussey, who represented Australia in more than 300 international matches, was previously part of England’s coaching staff when they won the T20 World Cup. He also has coaching experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and The Hundred.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Hussey said he was thrilled to be officially involved with the Australian team and hoped to contribute to its success during the challenging period ahead. Head coach Andrew McDonald and Cricket Australia’s National Teams General Manager Ben Oliver also expressed optimism that Hussey’s experience and inclusion would further strengthen the team.
