Matt Renshaw appears to have discovered a new dimension to his game during Australia’s tour of Bangladesh. Alongside making useful contributions with the bat, he has emerged as an effective bowling option. His impact with the ball has been particularly noticeable against Bangladesh, with the hosts repeatedly falling victim to his deliveries. Speaking after Australia secured the series, the all-rounder also took a subtle dig at Bangladesh while responding to questions about his bowling.

Renshaw has claimed eight wickets across five matches on the Bangladesh tour so far. Reflecting on his bowling success, he told reporters, “Yeah, but I heard my bowling isn’t very good! I saw a comment from one of the Bangladesh players. Bowling is something I really enjoy. I try to look at it from a batter’s perspective and understand what the batter is trying to do with each ball. I know I won’t be able to execute every delivery exactly as I want. So I try to set fields and adapt to the situation as best as I can to contribute to the team. Fortunately, I’ve managed to pick up a few wickets on this tour, which is obviously pleasing.”

Looking back on the ups and downs of his international career, Renshaw admitted that moving in and out of different formats has made for an unusual journey. He said, “Yeah, my international career has been a bit strange because of moving in and out of different formats. But the most important thing is finding comfort and belief in yourself. I’ve always bowled. If you’re not batting, you might as well do a bit of bowling!”

Renshaw also highlighted the importance of his unbeaten innings in the second T20I, describing it as a confidence-boosting knock after a run of low scores. Sharing his thoughts, he said, “From a batting perspective, today’s innings was really important for me. After a string of low scores, I reminded myself why I want to play and how I want to play. As I’ve said before, I could easily have been out for 20. But the way I started the innings was probably one of the best starts of my career. I was really excited about that. Then I was able to turn that start into a substantial innings and help lay the foundation for a good win for the team.”
