Haris Rauf Fined 20 of Match Fee, Handed One Demerit Point
Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf has been sanctioned for losing his temper during Pakistan’s thrilling one-wicket victory over England in Lahore. He has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for an altercation involving umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat and England all-rounder Will Jacks. Rauf has also received one demerit point.
The incident took place during Sunday’s match when Pakistan were chasing England’s target in a tense finish. The controversy began in the 46th over after umpire Sharfuddoula declined to call a delivery from Sam Curran a wide. Rauf, who was at the non-striker’s end, expressed his displeasure over the decision. At the same time, he approached Jacks, who was fielding at mid-on, with his bat raised in an aggressive manner. Although Sharfuddoula attempted to intervene, Rauf continued towards Jacks and became involved in a heated exchange with him. Joe Root later stepped in and calmed Rauf down.
Rauf and Jacks were also seen exchanging words again while shaking hands after the match. However, putting the tension behind him, Rauf ultimately emerged as the hero of the contest. He sealed Pakistan’s unforgettable one-wicket victory with 17 balls remaining, hitting a four off debutant English pacer Henry Crocombe.
This is Rauf’s fifth demerit point in the past 14 months. Last year, he was suspended for two matches following two separate disciplinary breaches during the Asia Cup. If he accumulates three more demerit points by September 13 next year, within the 24-month assessment period, he will face a four-match suspension.
Meanwhile, all members of the England team have been fined 15 per cent of their match fees for failing to complete their overs within the allotted time. The visitors were three overs behind the required rate. England captain Harry Brook accepted the charge and the subsequent sanction for the slow over-rate offence.
