Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 in their first innings against the West Indies in Mirpur, despite showing signs of posting a big total. Resuming the second day at 213 for 3, the hosts managed to add just 59 runs before losing their remaining seven wickets.
At the start of the day, opener Shadman Islam brought up his third Test century by scoring two runs. However, his dismissal at 105, trapped lbw by debutant Joshua Bishop, changed the course of the innings.
Following Shadman’s departure, Towhid Hridoy also returned to the pavilion without adding to the total. Hridoy had retired hurt on 42 on the previous day, leaving the field visibly disappointed. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das then attempted to steady the innings with a 32-run partnership. However, Miraz was bowled by Jomel Warrican for 15.
Fast bowler Shamar Joseph quickly sent lower-order batters Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Mahmud back to the pavilion. Towards the end, spinner Warrican dismissed Taijul Islam to complete his five-wicket haul. At the other end, Litton Das remained unbeaten on 34 off 88 balls, fighting a lone battle as the innings came to an end.
For the Caribbean side, Jomel Warrican was the leading wicket-taker with five wickets for 53 runs. Shamar Joseph claimed three wickets, while Joshua Bishop took two, playing key roles in wrapping up Bangladesh’s innings swiftly.
