Four strong teams have reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup. Despite some fluctuations in performance, India and England have secured their places. Meanwhile, a confident South Africa side, riding on consistent victories, has also made it to the last four. In this context, former Australian pace legend Glenn McGrath has already made his prediction, backing India and South Africa as his two finalists.

In the first semifinal in Kolkata, South Africa will face New Zealand. The second semifinal in Ahmedabad will see India take on England. The outcomes of these two matches will determine the title clash.

Although McGrath considers England a strong side on paper, he sees a lack of consistency in their performances. He also hinted that they have enjoyed a bit of luck in a few matches. In contrast, the Australian great has observed greater stability in India’s campaign. He believes that if both teams play to their usual standards, India will have the edge.

McGrath also rated South Africa as a well-balanced team. He has been impressed by their planned progress and effective squad in the T20 format in recent times. South Africa’s dominance in a previous encounter against New Zealand has also factored into his analysis.

He spoke about India’s bowling lineup as well, particularly highlighting the performances of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. McGrath feels Bumrah’s ability to influence big matches is one of his greatest strengths.

“England are a dangerous team. On their day, if they really fire, they can do anything,” McGrath said. “But they have had a bit of luck this time. Nepal should have beaten them. The match against Italy was also very close. However, they have found ways to win. Perhaps that is giving them the confidence that they are in the best possible position heading into the semifinals.”

He added, “Looking at the way India have played throughout the tournament and the way England have played, if both sides perform at the same level in their head-to-head clash, India should go through to the final. For the final, I would pick South Africa and India.”

Assessing India’s bowling attack, he said, “Firstly, winning the toss and then what decision is made will be important. India’s bowling attack is good. Arshdeep Singh has been doing well, and Bumrah is quality.”

Praising Bumrah further, McGrath said, “Arshdeep is probably in rhythm among the Indian bowlers, but Bumrah is a big-match player. Often in important games, these kinds of players bring out their best. I’m not saying they lack focus in regular matches, but they enjoy the big games and big moments. In crucial matches, I always have full faith in Bumrah. I’m a big fan of his.”
