Farhan Climbs to Second Amid World Cup Storm, Abhishek Remains on Top
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has intensified the race at the top of the charts. In the latest weekly update released on Wednesday, Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan moved up to second place, significantly narrowing the gap with India’s Abhishek Sharma, who remains at the summit.
Farhan made history in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by becoming the first batter to score two centuries in a single edition. The right-hander reached his second hundred against Sri Lanka in Pallekele during the final Super 8s match. That innings not only propelled him up one spot but also earned him a career-best rating.
Abhishek Sharma continues to hold the number one position, though his lead over Farhan has narrowed to 26 rating points. Farhan now has 848 points. With 383 runs in the World Cup, he has also overtaken England’s Phil Salt.
The conclusion of the Super 8s stage brought several other shifts in the batting charts. India’s Ishan Kishan moved up to fourth with 783 points, while Tilak Varma climbed to sixth with 749 points. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis advanced one spot to eighth.
One of the biggest jumps was made by Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett, who rose six places to 11th after scoring 292 runs. South African players Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram also improved, now sitting at 13th and 16th respectively.
In the bowling rankings, India spinner Varun Chakravarthy remains at the top, though his lead has decreased to 18 points. With 12 wickets so far, he is now closely chased by Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed, who has moved up two places to third.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah climbed one spot to seventh, while Arshdeep Singh jumped six places to 13th. England’s Liam Dawson surged nine positions to share 14th place, and South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi advanced six spots to 20th.
In the all-rounder standings, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza continues to lead. His closest challenger is now India’s Hardik Pandya, who moved up one place to second, pushing Pakistan’s Saim Ayub down. West Indies veteran Jason Holder also made a strong leap, rising eight places to 11th following an impressive performance with both bat and ball.
