Gill and Kishan Centuries Power India to Series-Winning Victory Over Afghanistan
India sealed the three-match ODI series with a commanding 170-run victory over Afghanistan, thanks to brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. The win in the second ODI on Wednesday gave the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
After being asked to bat, India found themselves under some early pressure, but captain Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan laid a solid foundation for a massive total. Batting at No. 3, Gill produced a superb knock of 154, displaying remarkable composure despite battling intense heat and physical discomfort. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan ended a three-year wait for an ODI century with a blistering 125 off just 79 deliveries.
The pair added 224 runs for the third wicket, providing the platform for India’s imposing total. Rohit Sharma also contributed 48 runs. Although Afghanistan’s spinners triggered a late collapse, India still managed to post 402/8 in their 50 overs. Nangeyalia Kharote claimed four wickets, while Rashid Khan picked up three for the visitors.
Chasing a daunting target of 403, Afghanistan struggled from the outset. India’s pace attack struck at regular intervals to maintain complete control of the match. Arshdeep Singh and debutant Gurnoor Brar led the bowling effort with three wickets each. Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 232.
With the comprehensive victory, India secured the series with one match remaining.
