Hannan Sarkar Resigns from National Team Selector Role
Hannan Sarkar has resigned from his position as a selector for the Bangladesh national cricket team, despite having a contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) until 2026. He made this decision within a year of assuming the role.
Hannan took up the position of assistant selector on February 12 last year, working alongside Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu. Prior to this, he had served as a selector for age-group teams. The former opening batsman played 17 Tests and 20 One Day Internationals for Bangladesh.
In recognition of his good work with the age-group teams, he was promoted to the national selector panel in 2024. He was appointed for a two-year term under Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu's committee. However, less than a year into his tenure, Hannan decided to step down from his position.
Hannan submitted his resignation letter to the Chairman of the BCB's Cricket Operations Department, Nazmul Abedin Fahim, yesterday.
Hannan made his debut for the national team in 2002, and played 17 Tests and 20 One Day Internationals until 2004. In Tests, he scored 662 runs at an average of 20.06, and in ODIs, he scored 383 runs at an average of 19.15. Across both formats, he scored 8 half-centuries.
