Indian Women Make History, Clinch World Cup Title with Record-Breaking Prize Money
Ending years of anticipation, India have finally written a new chapter in women’s cricket history. At the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday night, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to claim their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title. Beyond their triumph on the field, the tournament also set a historic record in terms of prize money.
The recently concluded World Cup featured a total prize pool of USD 13.88 million equivalent to around BDT 153 crore. This amount is nearly four times higher than that of the 2022 Women’s World Cup, and even surpasses the USD 10 million prize pool from the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup.
As champions, India received USD 4.48 million, roughly BDT 55 crore. By comparison, 2022 champions Australia earned only USD 1.32 million. This marks an astounding 239% increase in the champion’s prize money a milestone many believe signals the dawn of a new era in women’s cricket.
