Persistent rain in Chattogram ultimately washed away the excitement ahead of the series decider, as the second T20I between Bangladesh and New Zealand was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.

The umpires called off the match due to continuous rainfall and formally informed both captains of the decision, meaning the second game of the three-match series could not take place.

At the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium on Wednesday, rain disrupted proceedings from the very beginning. Although both teams arrived at the ground on time, even the toss could not be held as conditions remained unfavorable throughout.

Light rain in the morning intensified into heavy showers by noon. While there was a window until 4:50 pm to start the match, the lack of improvement in weather conditions prompted officials to abandon the game as early as 4:15 pm.

Despite the rain, a number of spectators were seen entering the stadium with hope. Some waited under umbrellas, while others braved the rain, but ultimately left disappointed as no play was possible. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that tickets purchased online will be refunded.

Rain had also affected Chattogram the previous day, causing severe waterlogging across parts of the city. This impacted both teams’ preparations, with New Zealand shifting to indoor practice while Bangladesh did not train.

As a result, the fate of the series will now be decided in the final match. The third and last T20I is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
