Sanjus World Cup story, From a streak of fifties to the fulfillment of a dream

The sky above the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was awash with blue waves, roaring crowds, and electrifying excitement—altogether creating a grand epic. At the heart of that epic stood one man who didn’t just hold a bat; he etched his name into the pages of history—Sanju Samson. Every stroke from his bat seemed to declare: “I am here to win with my dreams. I am here to become part of history.”

Samson’s journey was far from easy. Despite being in the squad in 2024, he did not get to play a single match. After a disappointing New Zealand series in 2025, he was dropped once again. But he transformed those moments of frustration into strength. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “It feels like a dream. I’m honestly speechless and still trying to process my emotions. This journey truly began when I was part of the 2024 squad but didn’t play a single game. I kept imagining and dreaming about moments like these. I knew I had to work hard to become good enough. After the New Zealand series, I was shattered. It felt like my dream had broken once again. But God had different plans. I’m extremely happy that I had the courage to keep dreaming.”

A crucial driving force in this journey was Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. Samson revealed, “When I was in Australia and not playing, I started thinking about what my mindset should be at that moment. That’s when I reached out to Sachin sir. We had several long discussions. In fact, he even called me yesterday to ask how I was feeling. Getting guidance from someone like him—what more could I ask for? It gave me clarity and helped me with preparation, understanding the game, and awareness. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who supported me.”

On the field, he proved his worth. After returning to the tournament, his form was extraordinary. Three consecutive half-centuries, an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in the Super Eight, 89 against England in the semifinal, and another 89 in the final against New Zealand—scoring 321 runs in just five innings with a strike rate of 199.37. Each shot was a perfect example of confidence and responsibility toward the team.

In the final, during India’s innings of 255/5, his contribution was more than just runs—it symbolized composure under pressure, attacking intent, and commitment to the team. No matter how strong the opposition or strategic their bowling plans were, Samson’s bat rendered them ineffective. Contributions from Bumrah, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube were also significant, but the centerpiece of India’s title-winning campaign was Sanju.

The 2026 T20 World Cup proved that talent alone is not enough. When relentless hard work, mental strength, and belief in one’s dreams come together, history can be written. In this tournament, Sanju Samson became that example—a batsman who symbolized not only runs but also dreams, courage, and resilience.

His comeback story teaches us that no matter how big the obstacles are, if you have the courage to dream, one day those dreams can return as world-conquering success.
