Massive blow to Australia as Cameron Green doubtful for Border-Gavaskar series
Australian cricketer Cameron Green's participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has become uncertain. The first Test of the five-match series between India and Australia is set to begin on November 22. If he requires surgery for a back injury before that, Green will miss the series.
Green sustained the back injury while playing in the ODI series against England, leading to uncertainty regarding his availability for the Test series against India. Initially, it was reported that the all-rounder might not be available, and in that case, the tall right-handed Aussie star would only play as a batsman. However, it has now been indicated that surgery may be necessary for Green.
Cricket Australia's doctor, Peter Brukner, stated that Green cannot take the field until he is fully fit. As a result, he returned home during the England series.
Green's absence could lead to changes in Australia’s batting order. Steve Smith may bat at number four, while Marcus Harris could open alongside Usman Khawaja, with Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw as possible options.
