Parvez Hossain Emon Doubtful with Injury, Soumya Sarkar in Contention
Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon remains uncertain after picking up an injury during a practice match, with team management yet to issue an official update on his fitness. Captain Litton Das confirmed the uncertainty, noting that no clear communication had come from the physio or management regarding Emon’s condition.
Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Litton said, “I’m not sure about Parvez Emon’s situation yet. I haven’t received anything from the management or the physio.”
If Emon fails to recover, backup batter Soumya Sarkar is likely to step in. Soumya has already staked his claim with an explosive 41-run knock in the warm-up match, laced with boundaries and sixes.
“Soumya is our backup option. If, for any reason, a player gets injured—especially in that position—then Soumya will definitely come in,” Litton added.
Despite being out of the national side for some time, Soumya has been in consistent form in domestic cricket. Should Emon’s injury linger, the left-handed opener could not only feature in the Netherlands series but also find a place in Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.
His potential recall would strengthen Bangladesh’s opening options, providing the team with an experienced alternative at the top of the order.
