CWAB Demands Action Over Alleged Police Assault on Naeem Hasan

The Bangladesh Cricketers’ Welfare Association (CWAB) has strongly condemned the alleged physical assault and harassment of Bangladesh national team spinner Naeem Hasan by police.

In a press release issued on Friday (June 13), CWAB called on the Chattogram Metropolitan Police authorities to take strict action against all police personnel involved in the alleged assault.

According to the statement, on the night of June 12, after completing a Dhaka Premier League match in Savar, Naeem Hasan was returning to his home in Chattogram when police stopped him near Lalkhan Bazar. CWAB alleged that the officers displayed hostile behavior toward him from the outset.

The association claimed that when Naeem attempted to speak, police grabbed him by the throat. Despite several bystanders identifying him as national cricketer Naeem Hasan, he was allegedly beaten with a pipe by the officers.

The statement further alleged that Naeem was later taken to Khulshi Police Station, where he was subjected to additional mistreatment. According to CWAB, the situation only changed when he managed to make phone calls seeking assistance.

Expressing concern over the incident, CWAB stated that such treatment is unacceptable for any citizen of the country.

CWAB President Mohammad Mithun has already spoken with Naeem Hasan and assured him that the entire cricketing community of Bangladesh stands beside him.

No immediate response from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police was available regarding the allegations.
