Dhaka Fall Short Despite Late Fight, Rangpur Win by 11 Runs
Despite a spirited fight till the end, Dhaka could not get over the line. Chasing a target of 181 runs in the allotted 20 overs, Dhaka Capitals were restricted to 170 for 7, handing Rangpur Riders an 11-run victory in the 27th match of the Bangladesh Premier League. With this win, Rangpur confirmed their place in the playoffs.
Batting first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Rangpur Riders posted a strong total of 181 for 4. The foundation of the innings was laid by Dawid Malan and Towhid Hridoy. Malan was aggressive from the outset, playing a fluent knock of 78 off 49 balls. He was well supported by Towhid Hridoy, who scored 62 off 46 deliveries. This partnership largely put Rangpur in control of the match. Later, a quick cameo of 24 runs from Kyle Mayers further boosted Rangpur’s total.
In reply, Dhaka did not get off to the start they were hoping for. Regular wickets at crucial intervals put the team under pressure. However, Mohammad Saifuddin’s explosive innings towards the end brought fresh excitement to the contest. He smashed 58 runs off just 30 balls, while Imad Wasim’s 20 off 13 deliveries kept Dhaka in the hunt. At one stage, Dhaka needed 42 runs from 14 balls, but disciplined bowling from Rangpur in the final two overs prevented them from reaching the target.
Dhaka Capitals eventually finished on 170 for 7 in 20 overs. Holding their nerve in the crucial moments, Rangpur’s bowlers guided the team to a well-earned victory.
