Matt Renshaw’s brilliant unbeaten 89 guided Australia to a seven-run victory over Bangladesh in the second T20I. The thrilling win also secured the series for the visitors.
After being asked to bat, Australia found themselves under pressure early on, losing three wickets for 44 runs during the powerplay. However, Renshaw and Tim David steadied the innings with a rapid 50-run partnership that came off just 27 deliveries. Although David departed after a quick-fire 30 from 13 balls, Renshaw continued his aggressive approach.
Renshaw reached his half-century in just 29 balls and remained unbeaten until the end of the innings. He struck four fours and five sixes in his 52-ball knock of 89, helping Australia post a formidable total of 196/5 in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh responded positively, attacking from the outset and reaching the 50-run mark in just 4.1 overs. They finished the powerplay on 72/1 before Saif Hassan and Parvez Hossain Emon strengthened the chase with a crucial 50-run partnership from 33 deliveries.
At the halfway stage, Bangladesh were well placed on 103/2 and remained firmly in contention after bringing up 150 in the 16th over. However, Australia’s bowlers held their nerve in the final four overs, taking key wickets and restricting boundary opportunities at crucial moments.
As a result, Bangladesh finished on 189/6 from their 20 overs, falling agonisingly short by seven runs.
Renshaw’s match-winning unbeaten 89 proved to be the decisive contribution as Australia clinched both the match and the series.
