Afghanistan Make Promising Start in Reply to Zimbabwe 504, Reach 113 at Stumps on Day Two

Afghanistan have made a promising start to their first innings in the opening Test against Zimbabwe at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. In reply to Zimbabwe’s imposing first-innings total of 504, Afghanistan reached 113 for 1 at stumps on the second day. With nine wickets in hand, they still trail Zimbabwe by 391 runs.

Zimbabwe resumed their second day’s play on Friday at 326 for 5. Their batters continued to contribute consistently, adding another 178 runs for the remaining five wickets. Eventually, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 504 in 134.3 overs.

In response, Afghanistan got off to a positive start with the bat. At the close of play, they had scored 113 for 1 in 35 overs.

Building a substantial partnership on the third day, reducing the deficit and putting themselves in a strong position in the first innings will be the primary objectives for the Afghan batters. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe remain in a commanding position, holding a 391-run lead in the match.
