Jangoos Century Powers West Indies to Mammoth Total as Bangladesh Lose Two Early Wickets
West Indies posted a commanding first-innings total in the series-opening Test in Sylhet, powered by a magnificent century from Aamir Jangoo. In reply, Bangladesh found themselves in early trouble after losing two wickets to the Caribbean pace attack. At tea on the second day, the hosts had managed 36 runs on the scoreboard.
After winning the toss last Thursday, West Indies elected to bat first. Aamir Jangoo settled in at the crease early and produced an impressive batting display. Facing 212 deliveries, the batter struck 13 fours and two sixes on his way to a brilliant 133. He received valuable support from middle-order batters Kevin Wickham (61) and Justin Greaves (51). West Indies were eventually bowled out for 356 runs.
For Bangladesh, pacer Hasan Mahmud led the bowling attack with a devastating spell, claiming six wickets with disciplined line and length. Taskin Ahmed and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Bangladesh’s reply got off to a shaky start as the West Indies pace attack put the hosts under immediate pressure. Struggling against the hostile new-ball spells of Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales, the Bangladeshi batters found it difficult to score freely. Openers Tanzid Hasan (16) and nightwatchman Nayeem Hasan (5) returned to the pavilion before the team could add many runs to the total.
At the tea interval, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 11, while Towhid Hridoy was batting on 4 as the pair looked to steady the innings.
