The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Mahmudullah Riyad for his invaluable contribution to Bangladesh cricket. On Wednesday, Mahmudullah announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to his 18-year-long career.
Mahmudullah has played a total of 430 international matches, scoring 11,047 runs and taking 166 wickets. He holds the record for the most centuries (4) by a Bangladeshi player in ICC events and is the fourth-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in ODIs and the second-highest in T20Is. He also captained the national team in six Test matches and 43 T20 internationals.
BCB President Faruk Ahmed praised Mahmudullah's contribution, saying, "This is a sad moment for us, as Mahmudullah has been a strong pillar of Bangladesh cricket for nearly two decades. His consistency and ability to perform under pressure have made him an invaluable asset. His dedication and performances have set a benchmark for future generations, and his legacy will continue to inspire Bangladesh cricket."
He further added, "Mahmudullah is known as one of Bangladesh's most reliable performers. Whether with the bat or the ball, he has always delivered when needed the most. His calm demeanor under pressure and leadership qualities on the field have earned him a prestigious place in the history of Bangladesh cricket."
Expressing his best wishes for Mahmudullah's future, Faruk Ahmed said, "On behalf of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, we celebrate Mahmudullah's extraordinary career and extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable service and contributions. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and are confident that his experience will continue to contribute to the development of cricket in Bangladesh."
