The Bangladesh U19 cricket team continued their impressive run in the tri-nation series by defeating South Africa U19 by 5 wickets at Harare Sports Club. After bowling out the Proteas for a modest 147, the young Tigers comfortably chased down the target in just 29.3 overs, despite a minor top-order collapse.
Batting first, South Africa got off to a steady start with a 21-run opening stand but quickly lost control. Within a span of just 4 runs, they lost 3 wickets, slumping to 45 for 5. Only Paul James (33), Vihaan Pretorius (18), and Bandile (39) offered any resistance as the team folded for 147 in 37.2 overs.
Bangladesh’s bowling was led by Sanjid Mozumder, who picked up 4 wickets, dismantling South Africa’s middle and lower order.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start, losing Jawad Abrar (3), Azizul Hakim (7), and Rizan Hossain (1) early, leaving them at 49 for 3. The trouble continued as they slipped to 68 for 5, raising concerns of a potential upset.
However, a mature and unbeaten 80-run partnership between Mohammad Abdullah (20)* and Samiun Bashir (52)* ensured Bangladesh crossed the line without further hiccups. Rifat Beg also contributed with a valuable 43 at the top.
For South Africa, Bwanda Mazola impressed with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 29 runs, but it wasn’t enough to defend the low total.
With this clinical win, the Bangladesh U19s continue to assert their dominance in the tournament, having now beaten both Zimbabwe and South Africa convincingly.
