BCB to Observe National Mourning Day with Solemn Respect Amid Deepened Grief
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will observe National Mourning Day on Tuesday, July 22, with solemn respect, in line with nationwide commemorations. On the occasion, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all BCB venues across the country, including the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
However, this year’s mourning takes on an even deeper meaning. In memory of those killed and injured in Monday’s tragic military fighter jet crash in Dhaka’s Uttara area, the BCB has announced a special program.
As part of the tribute, a prayer session will be held seeking forgiveness for the departed souls and speedy recovery for the injured. In addition, a one-minute silence will be observed before the second T20 match between Bangladesh and Pakistan, scheduled for tomorrow at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.
Players, coaching staff, and match officials will wear black armbands as a mark of respect. The BCB has also confirmed that no music will be played throughout the match, in keeping with the spirit of mourning.
In an official press release, the BCB stated:
“The BCB expresses its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the military jet accident. We stand in solidarity with the nation during this moment of sorrow.”
