At the end of Day Two of the Sylhet Test, Zimbabwe find themselves slightly ahead. Bangladesh will begin their second innings on Day Three, trailing the visitors by 25 runs. However, for now, it is Zimbabwe who appear to have the upper hand. Zimbabwean opener Brian Bennett echoed this sentiment during the post-day press conference.
“Yes, we did well on the first day. Bangladesh is a good side, and they played well today,” Bennett said. “The match is in the balance at the moment. But I think we’re slightly ahead, especially after picking up a wicket late in the day. Tomorrow is going to be a big day. We’ll try to restrict them from scoring too many runs so we don’t have to chase a massive total.”
With a long string of losses in the Test format, Zimbabwe now see an opportunity to return to winning ways with a potential victory over Bangladesh.
“This is a great opportunity for us,” Bennett added. “We have to come back tomorrow and fight hard. There’s still a lot of cricket left in this match, so nothing is certain. We’ll be ready to battle it out again.”
Zimbabwe did miss a few chances in the field during Bangladesh’s second innings, including some dropped catches. When asked about it, Bennett said, “Yes, we missed quite a few chances. Nobody wants to drop catches, but the team backed each other. No one shouted or blamed anyone for the misses. We want to come back stronger tomorrow.”
Speaking about his own dismissal off Nahid Rana’s bowling, the opener said, “He definitely has good pace. I usually try to read the ball well before playing. But from my end, there was some mis-execution, and that led to my dismissal.”
