Mohammad Hafeez Sees Opportunity for Bangladesh Against Australia, Offers Explanation
So far, Bangladesh has performed better than expected in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, securing a spot in the Super 8 by surpassing teams like Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Nepal. Their first opponent in this stage is Australia. With the match looming, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez sees potential for Bangladesh to overcome the Aussie challenge.
In a podcast on YouTube’s Club Prairie Fire, Hafeez discussed the match with former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist and former English captain Michael Vaughan.
When asked about Bangladesh’s chances against Australia, Gilchrist dismissed the possibility of a Bangladesh victory. However, Mohammad Hafeez believes that if the conditions are spin-friendly, Bangladesh has a good chance.
Hafeez explained Bangladesh's opportunity by saying, "It depends on the pitch they play on. If the pitch is spin-friendly, Bangladesh can challenge any team. They are playing well; they have a good spin attack and their fast bowlers are performing well. Of course, their batters might find it difficult to bat on such a wicket. If the pitch is prepared that way, they can challenge any team."
"Australia will have an advantage in any condition. However, with the way Bangladesh is playing with the right bowling attack at the moment, I think if the conditions favor them, they can pose a challenge," Hafeez added.
