With regular wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das set to miss the upcoming home Test series against Zimbabwe due to his Pakistan Super League (PSL) commitments with Karachi Kings, the door has opened for young Mahidul Islam Ankon to return to the national squad.
Mahidul Islam Ankon made his Test debut unexpectedly last October against South Africa. Though he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, he managed to score 29 runs in the second. He was also part of the squad for the West Indies tour, though he didn’t get a chance to play.
Now, with Litton unavailable, Ankon is the frontrunner to fill the wicketkeeping slot for the two-Test series, scheduled to be played this month in Sylhet and Chattogram.
Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selectors have finalized the squad for the Zimbabwe series, it has yet to be officially announced. Ankon’s inclusion is almost certain, but it remains to be seen whether he will make the playing XI, as Jaker Ali Anik, another wicketkeeper-batter, is also expected to be part of the squad.
