Former Pakistan leg spinner and member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team, Mushtaq Ahmed, will continue working with the Bangladesh national team for two more years. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to extend his tenure as the spin consultant.
BCB is in discussions with Mushtaq Ahmed to finalize the extension of his contract. Both parties are expected to sign the agreement shortly, and BCB will formally announce the decision soon.
The BCB expects Mushtaq Ahmed to work with Bangladesh cricket in various capacities for 130 days annually. He will not only work with the national team but will also dedicate time to the High Performance Unit and other programs.
Mushtaq Ahmed was part of Bangladesh’s coaching setup during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the United States and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
In his playing career, Mushtaq Ahmed took 185 wickets in Test cricket and 161 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). At 53 years old, Mushtaq has focused on coaching since his retirement. He served as England's spin bowling coach from 2008 to 2014, the West Indies' spin coach from 2018 to 2019, and Pakistan's spin coach from 2020 to 2022. He was also Pakistan's bowling consultant from 2014 to 2016.
