History Made in Glasgow: Netherlands Win Epic T20 Clash After Three Super Overs
A breathtaking chapter in cricket history was written in Glasgow, as Nepal and the Netherlands battled through not one, not two, but three Super Overs in a dramatic T20 clash — the first-ever men’s international match to do so. In the end, it was the Netherlands who emerged victorious in this unforgettable contest.
Nepal required 16 runs in the final over of their chase. Nandan Yadav struck boundaries and quick twos to tie the match, sending it into a Super Over.
In the first Super Over, Dutch left-arm spinner Daniel Doram, who had earlier taken 3 wickets for 14, was taken apart by Kushal Bhurtel, who smashed two sixes and a four, helping Nepal score 19 runs.
But the Netherlands matched that, thanks to Michael Levitt, who launched the first ball for six, followed by Max O'Dowd, who hit a six and a four off the final two balls — pushing the match into a second Super Over.
In the second tie-breaker, the Netherlands posted 17 runs. In response, Rohit Paudel started strong with a six, and Dipendra Singh Airee added a four. With 7 runs needed off the last ball, Airee hit a six — unbelievably pushing the game into a third Super Over.
For the final tie-break, off-spinner Jack Luiten Katché bowled a dream over, dismissing both Paudel and Rupesh Singh without conceding a run. In reply, Levitt sealed the deal by smashing Sandeep Lamichhane’s first ball for a six — ending one of the wildest finishes in T20 history.
Earlier, the Netherlands scored 152, with Teja Nidamanuru top-scoring with 35 runs, while Lamichhane took 3 wickets and Nandan bagged 2.
Nepal matched the score in their chase, powered by Paudel’s 48 and Bhurtel’s 34, but Doram’s spin and disciplined death bowling took the match into extra drama.
This match enters the record books as the first-ever in men’s international or List A cricket to feature three Super Overs, a game that will be remembered for its sheer suspense and unprecedented twists.
