Faruk Ahmed Denies Leaving Country, Alleges Forced Removal by Government in Complaint to ICC
Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruk Ahmed has denied rumors of fleeing the country amid allegations that he was forcibly removed from his position. In a recent development, Faruk claimed he did not wish to vacate his role at the BCB and that his ousting was orchestrated by the government. He has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the matter.
Responding to widespread speculation about his departure from the country, Faruk Ahmed firmly stated,
"Do you think I’m a stooge of fascists that I’d run away? I’m here, and I’ll stay here. We’ll see…"
Just last night, the National Sports Council (NSC) officially revoked Faruk Ahmed’s nomination as a BCB director. He had become BCB President following the July movement, after being appointed as a director under the NSC quota—a decision influenced by the government.
Despite serving less than nine months in office, Faruk was compelled to step down. With the loss of his directorial position, he also became ineligible to remain as President of the cricket board.
The controversy surrounding his exit continues to stir debate within Bangladesh’s cricket and political circles, especially following his open defiance and decision to stay in the country despite mounting pressure.
