Hasan Chooses Country Over LPL, Sets Sights on Australia Test Series

Despite spending a long period outside the national team, Hasan Mahmud never stopped preparing for his opportunity. That patience is finally paying off. After impressing for Kent in both the County Championship and the Vitality Blast, the right-arm pacer forced his way back into the spotlight. He initially returned to the Test side for the Harare Test against Zimbabwe under Bangladesh’s rotation policy, and now, following Nahid Rana’s injury, he is set to shoulder greater responsibility in the upcoming Test series in Australia.

With the Test tour of Australia scheduled for next month, Hasan’s full focus is now on preparing for the challenge. As a result, he has decided to leave the Lanka Premier League (LPL) midway through the tournament and return home. Like Taskin Ahmed, he has chosen national duty over franchise cricket.

Speaking to Bangladeshi journalists during the LPL, Hasan made it clear where his priorities lie.

“Of course, Bangladesh comes first. My country always comes before any other competition. I have to go. A few of our fast bowlers are injured, and we have a huge opportunity ahead with the Test matches against Australia. We are very positive and confident about playing well. We will give our best and aim to achieve something special.”

Overall, the pacer is enjoying one of the best phases of his career. His consistent performances in county cricket have boosted both his confidence and his standing, while his return to the national team has opened the door to cementing his place. Even during difficult periods, particularly while recovering from injury, Hasan remained committed to improving himself through hard work.

Reflecting on his journey, Hasan said:

“Alhamdulillah for everything. I always try to stay true to myself. Even during injuries, I work very hard, and once I recover, I always try to perform. My goal is to keep working consistently so that when an opportunity comes, I don’t let it slip away.”

Leaving a major franchise tournament like the LPL midway has brought no disappointment for Hasan. Instead, he sees the opportunity to represent Bangladesh in the Test series against Australia as a far greater achievement.

Expressing his determination to give everything for his country, the Lakshmipur-born pacer said:

“Yes, absolutely. I’m going to play Test cricket, and InshaAllah, I will try to give my very best.”
