Amid a massive crowd and an electric atmosphere at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, India clinched victory on the biggest stage of international T20 cricket, winning the World Cup for the second consecutive time. In the final of the T20 World Cup, India set a daunting target of 256 against New Zealand and then bowled them out for just 159, securing the title once again. Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in making this victory memorable with the ball. His spell of four overs, conceding only 18 runs and taking two wickets, proved crucial to India’s triumph.

Bumrah provided the biggest support to India’s victory with the ball in the final. His bowling figures of four wickets for just 15 runs in four overs were simply outstanding. The final statistics clearly reflect his brilliance: 4 overs, 15 runs conceded, 4 wickets, an economy rate of 3.75, and a chance of a hat-trick in the 16th over. This performance earned him the Player of the Match award in the final and marked the eighth time he has received this honor in international T20 cricket.

While receiving the award, Bumrah said, “It feels very special. I had previously played a final at home but couldn’t win it. Today we managed to win. I knew the wicket was very batting-friendly, so I had to use all my experience.”

He added, “Before this tournament I felt like I was putting too much pressure on myself. I was bowling well, but it felt like I was trying too hard. In this tournament I simply tried to play according to the situation, and that worked… There’s nothing better than being Player of the Match in a World Cup final at home.”

In the fourth over of the match, Bumrah struck with his very first delivery, dismissing Rachin Ravindra and conceding only four runs in that over. In the final over of the powerplay, he gave away just five runs, easing the pressure on his team. In the 16th over of the innings, he bowled out Jimmy Neesham and Matt Henry, strengthening India’s path to victory. In the 18th over, he sealed the result by shattering Mitchell Santner’s stumps.

Bumrah’s exceptional bowling in the final was not just about statistics; it was also a symbol of pure cricketing skill. The opposition batters struggled to cope with the pressure created by his bowling, which made India’s victory easier. His performance was a perfect blend of skill, strategy, and the ability to put batters under constant pressure.

Bumrah also believes that the 2023 World Cup final, held at home, still remains fresh in his memory. In that final he took two wickets for 43 runs in nine overs, but India could not win the match. However, the victory against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final has erased that disappointment. As he himself said, “It feels very special. I had played a final at home before but couldn’t win it.”

Winning a final at home, taking responsibility in pressure situations, and mentally dominating the opposition — all these qualities have established Bumrah as an exceptional bowler and a true match-winner.
