Bangladesh’s first innings against the West Indies in the opening Test of the series ended at 272. Liton Das remained unbeaten on 34 after battling hard until the end of the innings, facing 88 deliveries. However, when the visitors came out to bat in their first innings, the regular wicketkeeper was no longer behind the stumps. Substitute fielder Jaker Ali Anik took over the wicketkeeping duties in his place.

During the match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a media release regarding Liton’s physical condition. The board confirmed, “Liton has sustained an injury to his right elbow. He is currently under observation.”

Notably, injuries have continued to trouble the right-handed batter in recent months. He also suffered an injury during the red-ball series against visiting Australia in June this year. There had been some uncertainty over his fitness even before the start of the first Test against the West Indies. After all the speculation, he was included in the playing XI and went on to face 88 deliveries with determination at the crease.

However, while spending an extended period at the crease, Liton was struck directly on his right elbow at least twice by deliveries from the visiting bowlers. As a result, the injured area sustained a significant impact. Although the severity of such blows may not always be immediately apparent from the outside, they can cause specific damage to the underlying muscle tissue.
