IPL Suspended for a Week Amid Security Scare; Cheerleader Describes ‘Terrifying’ Dharamshala Scene

In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the remaining matches of the IPL 2025 for one week, citing security concerns. The decision follows a disturbing incident at Dharamshala, where Thursday night’s match was abruptly abandoned due to a perceived threat.

The match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, scheduled to take place in Delhi the previous evening, was declared abandoned mid-game due to safety concerns. However, it was the atmosphere at Dharamshala that captured global attention after a cheerleader’s emotional video surfaced online.

In the now-viral footage, the visibly shaken cheerleader recounts the harrowing moments inside the stadium:

“The situation was really scary. People were screaming that bombs were coming. We just wanted to get out of Dharamshala quickly. I hope IPL officials are thinking about our safety. I don’t even know why I’m not crying yet. I think I’m still in shock.”

The video, which shows her filming the eerily empty ground during the evacuation, has sparked intense discussion about the mental and physical well-being of not just players, but also support staff, cheerleaders, and spectators.

Security Fears Disrupt Cricket Once Again

This latest incident is part of a broader fallout from the deteriorating relationship between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The escalating conflict has led to a string of military exchanges, prompting organizers to reassess the feasibility of continuing large-scale public events such as the IPL.

The BCCI’s decision to temporarily suspend the IPL was made in the interest of player and public safety. League officials have stated that they will re-evaluate the situation after one week to determine whether it is safe to resume matches.

This marks yet another major disruption to South Asian cricket, which has already seen the PSL relocated to the UAE, the Asia Cup under threat of cancellation, and bilateral series hanging in uncertainty.
