For the upcoming ODI series against England, Australia has included 6-foot-2-inch tall pace bowler Mahli Beardman in the squad. Beardman has been added as a traveling reserve due to the injuries to the regular pace bowlers.
Mahli Beardman delivered an outstanding performance for Australia in the last Under-19 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Match in the final against India, contributing to Australia’s victory. Recently, the Perth Scorchers have signed him for the upcoming Big Bash League, although he has yet to make his debut in first-class cricket.
A few days ago, Australian pacer Nathan Ellis was injured during the Scotland series. Additionally, Xavier Bartlett was injured in the first T20I against England. Spencer Johnson was already ruled out due to injury, and Riley Meredith is also dealing with an injury. There is also some concern regarding Josh Hazlewood. Consequently, Australia is experiencing a shortage of pace bowlers.
Later this year, Australia will play a five-match Test series in India. With this series in mind, the Australian team management might keep a close watch on the regular pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. This could open up an opportunity for Mahli Beardman.
