Nasir Hossain Returns with a Smile as Rupganj Tigers Clinch Big Win
Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain marked his return to competitive cricket with both bat and ball as his team, Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, secured a dominant 8-wicket victory over Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League.
After serving a ban imposed by the ICC, Nasir returned to action today and contributed in both departments. With the ball, he delivered a full 10-over spell, taking 1 wicket for 31 runs. He came in to bat at number three and scored 9 runs, including two boundaries, before falling just short of finishing the match.
Rupganj Tigers were chasing a modest target of 160 after Gazi Group were bundled out for 159. Skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy managed just 10 runs, while Tahjibul Islam top-scored with 31 for Gazi Group.
Rupganj’s chase was off to a flying start, thanks to a 138-run opening stand between Abdul Mazid and Amit Majumder. Mazid made a solid 53 before getting out, while Majumder led the charge with a composed 76. Though Nasir couldn’t see the match through, Rupganj easily reached the target with 8 wickets in hand.
Nasir’s return, capped with a wicket and some handy runs, will boost both his confidence and that of the team as the league progresses.
