The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the appointment of former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait as the new pace bowling coach of the national team. The 42-year-old will join the Tigers later this month, with a contract running through to November 2027. Tait expressed his excitement upon taking on the new role.
Speaking about his appointment, Tait said,
“This is a great time to be involved with the Bangladesh national team—it feels like the beginning of a new era. We've had several discussions recently, and it’s exciting to see a group of young fast bowlers in the squad. This isn’t a development team—this is international cricket, where results matter. My focus is clear: to help the team win as many matches as possible.”
Tait also expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons:
“It’s equally exciting to have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons, and I’m really looking forward to the journey ahead.”
Before taking charge of Bangladesh’s pace attack, Tait had served as bowling coach for the national teams of Pakistan, West Indies (Test team), and Afghanistan. His coaching experience extends across major franchise leagues around the world, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lanka Premier League (LPL), and English County Cricket.
In the most recent edition of the BPL, Tait was the head coach of Chittagong Kings—a franchise he also played for during the 2012–13 season.
One of the fastest bowlers in the history of international cricket, Tait was a key member of Australia's 2007 ICC World Cup-winning team. Over his career, he represented Australia in 59 matches across all formats, including 3 Tests, 35 ODIs, and 21 T20Is.
