Zimbabwe Penalized for Slow Over Rate Against Afghanistan
Zimbabwe’s players have been fined 10% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate in the final T20I against Afghanistan in Harare. Afghanistan claimed victory in the low-scoring match by three wickets.
The penalty was imposed based on reports from on-field umpires Iknow Chabi and Foster Mutizwa, third umpire Persival Sizara, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza accepted the charge and the penalty imposed by ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft.
The sanction was enforced under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which stipulates that players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Zimbabwe is currently hosting Afghanistan for a full series, which began with a three-match T20I series.
The hosts won the first game, but Afghanistan secured victories in the next two matches to claim the series.
The two teams will now face off in a three-match ODI series, followed by two Test matches.
