Andre Russell Bids Farewell to International Cricket at Sabina Park

Andre Russell played his final international match on home soil at Sabina Park, as the West Indies all-rounder officially said goodbye during the second T20I of the five-match series against Australia on Wednesday.

Before the start of the match, Russell was given an emotional guard of honor by players from both teams. The stadium echoed with applause from fans as Sabina Park stood in tribute. Spectators in the stands rose to their feet to bid farewell to one of West Indies’ most explosive stars of the last decade. With a wave and misty eyes, Russell acknowledged the love with heartfelt gratitude.

Having made his international debut in 2010, Russell soon became a crucial asset for the West Indies in both ODIs and T20Is. In his farewell game, he gave fans a final glimpse of his power-hitting prowess—scoring a blistering 36 off just 15 balls, including 2 fours and 4 massive sixes, before being dismissed by Australia’s Nathan Ellis.

“Playing for West Indies is My Life’s Greatest Pride”

Speaking after the match, Russell expressed deep emotion and pride:

“Playing for West Indies has been one of the greatest honors of my life. As a child, I never imagined reaching this stage. I’m proud to have proven myself in this jersey. I hope to be an inspiration for future generations.”

He added:

“Playing at my home ground in front of my family has always been a special feeling. To end my international career here means the world to me. I’m truly grateful.”

A Glorious Career

Russell played 86 T20Is, and was a part of West Indies’ T20 World Cup-winning squads in 2012 and 2016. He also featured in 56 ODIs and appeared in one Test match for his country.

Though Andre Russell’s international career has come to a close, his legacy—marked by towering sixes, match-winning performances, and unforgettable memories—will remain etched in Caribbean cricket history.
